Who is Sweetpea4kids? Let me introduce myself. I'm Estee, and I'm the one behind the designs for Sweetpea4kids. I'm a devoted wife and mother to two boys and we live happily in our little house on the outskirts of London.
I'm no stranger to blogging, in fact, I've been at it for years and you can find my previous posts here . You may ask yourself, why have I decided to start a blog from scratch when I've had an established blog for years. A fresh face, fresh start for a fresh blog doesn't harm anyone.
So, a little about myself. I started off as a self taught knitter and developed my knitting to an advanced level. I featured a design on Knitty and even sold a few of my designs from my blog. I felt I had exhausted my knitting to all levels and tried my hand at crochet, which I still love. I am only able to crochet simple blankets and haven't let myself advance from that stage as at the time of learning to crochet, I inherited a sewing machine.
My beloved sewing machine. I have an old vintage Singer. I will admit, it sat on my table for a few months as I was too intimidated to turn it on. Then one evening whilst Simon, my hubby, was watching tv, I decided to turn it on and go through the manual and learn to thread it up. I got myself into all sorts of mess and even had to call my mum to come around and sort me out. And, bless her, she did.
I then started to practice straight stitching and messing around with zig zags and getting caught up in all sorts of mess with tension. Its very frustrating when you've got so many ideas in your head that you want to produce and you can't work the machine.
Time and practice lead to me producing a child's dress cut from a bought pattern. It was by no means perfect, in fact, I look back at all its flaws, but it was a good start. I decided at this point to enrol myself on a sewing course with the London College of Fashion. Here, I gained a confidence with the sewing machine and a love of creating something from nothing.
I had a blast on that course. It was one of the most enjoyable things I have done to date. Since, I have been able to adapt patterns into my own creations.
Sweetpea4kids has a line of appliqued children's t-shirts. Sizes are up to 7/8 years. T-shirts are 100% cotton and are of excellent weight. Appliques are designed by me, heat bonded and machine sewn to the tee. They are available for purchase here
